How to Generate a CSR in Office 365?

In this tutorial, we will show you how to generate a CSR in Microsoft Office 365. As with any Microsoft product, you will generate the CSR code using the Internet Information Services (IIS) manager.

Please, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  2. In the IIS manager on the left, choose your server name
  3. From the middle pane, select Server Certificates
  4. On the right Actions pane, click Create Certificate Request
  5. In the Request Certificate window, fill in the fields as shown below:
    • Common Name: the FQDN (fully-qualified domain name) you want to secure with an SSL Certificate (e.g., yoursite.com)
    • Organization: the full legal name of your company (e.g., Your Company LLC)
    • Organizational Unit: the department within your company requesting the SSL Certificate (e.g., IT)
    • City/locality: the city where your company is registered (e.g., Vancouver)
    • State/province: the state where your company is located (e.g., British Columbia)
    • Country/region: the twoletter code of your country
  6. Verify the info you’ve just entered and click Next
  7. From the Bit Length drop-down list, select 2048 and click Next
  8. Specify a file name for the certificate request and choose a save location
  9. Click Finish

You have successfully created your CSR code in Office 365.

You can open the CSR file with any text editor of your choice such as Notepad and copy its contents into the corresponding box during the certificate order process with your SSL vendor.
